The quality of the application has been a priority for PivoHub since the first version, deployed in August 2017. Similarly, the robustness of the underlying infrastructure has always been at the heart of our concerns.

Persistence, redundancy, availability, and security have been the guiding principles of our technological choices, particularly concerning your data.

We have chosen AWS, a globally recognized leader for the comprehensiveness, reliability, and security of its software infrastructure services. The hosting technology for our services, ECS (Elastic Container Service), is largely the reason why our platform offers such a satisfying experience and response times, while experiencing only a few hours of unplanned downtime in 8 years.

At that time, the nearest data centers were located in Northern Virginia. Meanwhile, AWS has opened data centers in Quebec, particularly in Montreal and surrounding areas, and has gradually deployed all its services in this region.

Today, our desire to reduce latency for our Canadian customers, to comply with data sovereignty requirements, as well as the current economic and political context, have led us to bring our entire infrastructure back to Canada.

The move to Canada was a multi-month project, and we took the time to do it right. We took this opportunity to modernize our infrastructure and rethink our technologies, leveraging the latest advancements in the field:

• Transition from AWS ECS to AWS EKS (Kubernetes), a more widely adopted containerization technology offering greater control and flexibility.
• Emphasis on performance by utilizing servers better suited to the nature of our microservices.
• More comprehensive and responsive incident monitoring, thanks to advanced monitoring tools.
• Strengthening the security of our infrastructure by adopting industry best practices.
• Enhancing our automated development and quality control workflows to be more responsive and provide you with more frequent and reliable updates.

This new architecture has been designed with the future in mind. It now allows us to expand more easily to other regions (in Canada or internationally) with minimal effort. This means that if your business operates in multiple provinces or countries, we will be there to support you!

It is designed to tolerate failures and maintain availability to respond more quickly to unforeseen events and ensure optimal service continuity. In particular, it has been designed to enable Disaster Recovery, meaning that in the event of a major disaster, we have a complete and automated procedure to redeploy our entire platform, its infrastructure, and its data within a few hours.
